The Rougaroux (sometimes spelled “rougarou”) is a monster of legend that not many are familiar with. A part of folklore in the New Orleans area, it is generally depicted as a swamp creature with the head of a wolf and the body of a man. It is similar, but not quite the same as the ubiquitous werewolf.
The Rougaroux is also the name of a band I had the chance to work with during my time at Immediate Family Marketing. In 2019, the band released a single entitled “Black Leather Jacket”. The song itself is an old-school rock and roll tune, perfectly befitting of its title. To promote the single on social media, I created two photo composites featuring Rougaroux. Or would it be “rougarouxs”?
Both images contained the titular black leather jacket, tying the band’s name and image to the name of the track for synergy. Both images used source images of a human, fused with elements of wolves and dogs through compositing to create the signature rougaroux look. For the second promotional image, I utilized the single’s cover image in the work. I masked out the hair of the original model, and sampled pieces of various images of wolves to achieve a seamless appearance. Promotional assets for music like this must be designed to specifically encapsulate the feel of the music in visual form, so that it strikes the right chord in potential listeners.
It’s always a pleasure to work with musicians, as music is a lifelong passion of mine. If you’re in need of graphic design for your music project, like a logo design, album artwork design, or promotional asset design for advertising or social media, contact us!
