For one of my college design courses, I chose to complete my independent study by doing a Design 365 challenge, working on some aspect of a design each day. The Watermelon Pool was a piece I completed during this time. A photo composite made out of various assets and effects, I was able to complete this in 3 hours, and I remain proud of the result to this day.
Starting with the image of the watermelon, I used a shape select on the surface of the watermelon to lower said surface, creating the pool. I then added walls with a gradient effect and added a colorfill layer for the surface of the water. I then added waves with texturing, and added in a ladder from an external image, which I warped to appear as if it were distorted by light refracting off the water. Also from an external image are the pool chairs, which I added in to create a more complete scene.
