While I was working for Immediate Family Marketing, one of their many musical clients was the group Freekbass and the Bump Assembly. One day, I was requested by Freekbass himself to design a graphic parodying the poster for Marvel’s crossover smash Avengers: Endgame.
I inserted each member of Freekbass’ band over an Avengers character using Photoshop. I masked out band members’ faces from an existing photo of the band. Naturally, I placed Freekbass over Captain America, the most central figure. For other band members, I placed them over Avengers characters who were facing the same way as they were in the source image. I did this to preserve the composition of the original film poster. This also includes Fre3kro, a mascot for the band, as the film’s antagonist, Thanos. Why Fre3kro? Simple answer: he’s purple! One challenge was matching the color of Sami Garrett’s hair over Captain Marvel, which I was able to achieve through recoloring so that none of the original poster behind the blended head stuck out. The finished work truly exemplifies the nature of Freekbass and the Bump Assembly: music’s most ambitious crossover.
It’s always a pleasure to work with musicians, as music is a lifelong passion of mine. If you’re in need of graphic design for your music project, like a logo design, album artwork design, or promotional asset design for advertising or social media, contact us!
